1897 - Iceland - 34v2 - Stamp - Cancelled

An extremely rare DOUBLE OVERPRINT of small "þrír" overprint on 5 aurar stamp in perf 13 that has also been overprinted with the digit "3". The stamp is not without flaws as can clearly be seen in the picture, however THE SAME APPLIES TO ALL OTHER KNOWN COPIES OF THIS VARIETY. All known copies with such a double overprint most likely originate from the same sheet, and all of them, like this particular copy, are STAMPED at SEYÐISFJÖRÐUR. The stamp comes from the exhibition collection of Johnny Pernerfors. The variety is star-marked in Facit due to rarity.
